Il Parco Nazionale del Cilento e del Vallo di Diano (National Park of "Cilento" and "Vallo di Diano", founded in 1991, comprises a large territory in southern Campania, delimited by the Paestum plan at north, by the "Vallo di Diano" at east, by the Tirrenian sea at south and west (at south exactly it is delimited by Policastro gulf).

Park area is large and various, because it comprises mountains (m. Cervati 1890 m, m Stella 1130 m), hills and beautiful seaside environment , like the famous capo Palinuro. Nature in the Park is still wild, especially in the most remote places, where the routes are very rare. It seams that time has stopped in the Park, because of many memories of ancient civilizations.

Park's flora and fauna are unique. The scent of the mediterranean scrub, of euforbia arborea, of elicriso, of cisto and lentisco, of myrtle and rosemary are very strong. In spring the hills are gilded by yellow broom and the orchids blossom into the wet grass.. The Park symbol is the Palinuro's primrose; "Palinuro" is the name of the unlucky Enea's helmsman, who, according to the myth, fell asleep and drowned in the sea near the promontory. The primrose is growing from the cracks of the Palinuro's rocks and its environment is less than 50 Km large. Botanists believe that Palinuro's primrose is a living fossil and that it is the progenitor of all spontaneous eurepean primroses, the only one that lives on seaside. It blossoms very early, at winter end, when the warm air of Cilento's spring is suggesting the glory of the future summer.
